Rise Fellow 2022

Wema is an accomplished flutist and a member of the Safaricom Youth Orchestra in Kenya, East Africa’s leading orchestra. As an avid reader from an early age, her Rise project was about promoting a reading culture in underprivileged Kenyan communities using storybooks and spreading awareness about stocking libraries. Wema has recently been accepted as one of the 130 students across Africa who will join the highly prestigious African Leadership Academy. Wema is passionate about mentorship, research, and using her creativity to solve social problems. She also is a pianist, a vocalist, and writes poetry.
