All submissions must adhere to the Submission Guidelines as defined here and in the Rules. Submitted responses will go through content moderation before being distributed for peer review. Video or text responses to the essay questions must:
- Be in English.
- Be free of mention of personal information that might pose a potential risk to your safety.
- Be between 30 seconds and 5 minutes for video responses and between 250 characters and 1600 characters for text responses.
- Be unique: do not provide the same response multiple times.
- Be intelligible so as to enable review. Avoid technical recording issues.
- Not include website links outside of the designated form field.
- Not include offensive language, nudity, sexual activity, or content which is unrelated to the challenge or designed to deceive.
- Not include content that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age.
- Adhere to Rise's Policy on Using Artificial Intelligence-Based Tools in generating your application.
Moderators will be reviewing your submissions against the above criteria. If one or more of your responses doesn’t adhere to the above guidelines for reasons which we deem accidental or good-faith, you may be encouraged to resubmit. More detailed explanations for why responses may be rejected are below.
Moderation is an important part of the Rise application process and helps Rise ensure a safe experience. We use our discretion to make decisions that promote a positive environment for applicants.
Rise is asking you personal questions and to disclose details of your personal story, thus moderators won’t send back responses which touch on sensitive personal topics. We urge you only to share aspects of your personal life and story which you’re comfortable sharing with a wide audience.
If you feel that your response was wrongly rejected, you may appeal the decision by emailing
support@risefortheworld.org. Reasons for rejection include the below. In some cases, you will be asked to resubmit. If limited access to technology prevents you from resubmitting, write to support@risefortheworld.org and we’ll work with you to figure out a solution.
Reasons why your response may be rejected:
Non-English language responses
This is used to define responses which are not in English. Rise requires that all responses be submitted in English. If you are showcasing work that you’ve done in another language (for example: a recording of you teaching a class in Arabic), that is fine as long as your responses to Rise’s questions are delivered in English.
Submission too short or Submission to Long
Responses which don’t conform to our minimum and maximum length requirements.
Videos must be a minimum of 30 seconds and no longer than 5 minutes. If you record or upload a longer video, it will be cut off at five minutes.
Text responses must be a minimum character count of 250 characters and be no longer than 1600 characters. You will be prevented from submitting the form if you haven’t adhered to these requirements.
Personally Identifiable Information
Responses that contain mention of personal information which we think poses a potential risk to your safety. This includes but is not limited to sharing your full name, age, address, name of school, items in the background that reveal this type of information, or school uniforms/sports attire with the name of the school on it. If we feel that the personal information shared might put you at risk, we will ask you to resubmit, excluding this information.
Same Response Submitted in Multiple Places
The same content submitted as the response to multiple prompts. If your content is rejected for this reason, please resubmit with unique responses to each question.
Recording or Technical Issue
Content is unintelligible to the extent that it will hinder or prevent assessment.
This could include a lack of audio entirely, partial audio, delayed audio, low audio, muffled audio, very loud background noise, major inconsistencies in volumes, and a mismatch between the audio and video. It also might include videos that won’t play, weren’t uploaded properly, or that are distorted to the point where they cannot be fairly reviewed.
If these issues prevent viewers from understanding your submission, you may be asked to resubmit.
Unrelated to the Challenge
Content which does not appear related or responding to the challenge.
Offensive Language
Responses that include swear words, rude phrases, rude gestures, or rude words used in an offensive context. While we understand that some words may be more or less offensive in different contexts and cultures, we ask you to be sensitive to others in the community.
Off Topic
Content that is irrelevant, designed to deceive, or which would create a negative user experience for other applicants.
Third-Party Copyrighted Material
Content which appears to belong to someone other than the applicant.
Rise takes intellectual property rights seriously and believes they are important to promoting expression and creativity in the application. However, before sharing content on Rise, please be sure you have the right to do so. We ask that you respect other people’s copyrights, trademarks and other legal rights.
Nudity or Sexual Activity
Content which displays nudity or sexual activity.
We understand that nudity can be shared for a variety of reasons, including to raise awareness about a cause or for educational or medical reasons. However, given that the population served by the Rise application platform are largely under 18, we ask for your understanding of this policy and encourage you to pursue creative alternatives where necessary.
Discriminatory
Content that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age. Any form of bullying, of any group of people, is not tolerated.
We believe in creating an environment of inclusion and promoting projects with positive social impact.
Contains links outside of the dedicated form field
Video or text responses to the short essay questions that contain links to external websites.
If you have produced a website as part of your project and are showing a screenshot of that website that includes the link, that is acceptable.
There is an acceptable opportunity to share a link as part of the Project Summary Form. Links must be to a publically-accessible site that doesn’t require a password or request for access.
As stated above, links which are included in other parts of the application may result in that content being rejected by moderators.
